Wow. Just, wow.
If I think I know anything about Matthew and his lack of ambition it might go back to things he told me years ago, about how he owes 6-figures in student loans and has some people who might still be after him on account of bad work he did for them when he was a lawyer.
And then there’s his ex-wife. He told me all this once saying this was why he did not have his own FB account for so long, has no lease, and basically does not exist on the books.
But, you know, that’s chitter-chatter from however many years since we met, and whether it’s still 100% relevant or not I don’t know why it would change your mind about anything.
An irony of all that is that his politics are so important but I have this suspicion that he does not even vote, since that would make him findable to creditors and such. I honestly hate to say it, because Matthew is genuinely a friend of mine, but I can totally see what you mean about the attitude getting old. I’d take it further and say that it’s just stupid.
I’m really sorry you’re having such a tough spell these days. Your e-mail really resonated. You can get through this, though, you know as well as I that your efforts will pay off. I don’t know if there is anything I could do to help out or back you up but know that you have my support and positive thoughts.
I’m not going to say that the ex bankrupted me but man if she could have just put up a few hundred bucks a month rent for a couple of years I’d be in a much better place financially right now. I’m mostly over the adjustment period of suddenly not being in a relationship after 3 years but I still have days where I wake up feeling sour and alone. Most days, though, I wake up optimistic and looking forward to this next chapter of my life. Change is good!
Good news on the dryer! Hah. I’ll put together another piano piece or two (or three) and share
it if you want to hear more.
Happy to hear from you, as always, despite the funk you are in! -mt
